You know how there are many levels of Muslims when it comes to learning and practising Deen. But let’s be honest—you don’t see yourself in those categories, do you? So, let’s leave those groups and their ways aside for a moment and focus on you.

You’re the kind of person who reflects on what you read or learn. When you come across something meaningful, it leaves an impact on you. You’re the one who plans, reads, thinks, and strives to act on Deen. But here’s the problem: you struggle to stay focused. You can’t seem to remain focused for long.

Have you ever wondered why?
Why can’t you remain firm on Deen?

The answer lies in Critical Reasoning.
You didn’t arrive at your understanding through deep, personal reflection. You didn’t engage in brainstorming or seek knowledge with intention. Instead, you just happened to find it on the go. It wasn’t something you earned through effort or attachment—it was handed to you. And because of that, it faded over time.

Let me give you some examples:

  • Criticizing Food
You had a habit of complaining about food. Then you came across the Hadith where it was said about Rasulullah Sallallahu Alalihi Wa Sallam that “He would never criticize food. If he liked it, he would eat it, and if he disliked it, he remained silent.”
    (Saheeh Bukhari 3370)

As you are a person who always tries to better yourself. You hear something, you try to act on it.
So, you tried to change, but after a few days, you were back to your old habit.
  • Anger
You had a habit of getting angry. Then you learned that anger is a weapon of Shaytan, and you came across the Hadith:
“The strong are not the best wrestlers. Verily, the strong are only those who control themselves when they are angry.”
    (Saheeh Bukhari 5763)

You tried to control your anger, but soon enough, you reverted to your old ways.
  • Arguing
You were someone who loved to argue, even when you were right. Then you learned the Hadith:
“I guarantee a house on the outskirts of Paradise for one who leaves arguments even if he is right.” (Abu Dawud 4800)
You tried to avoid arguments, but over time, you found yourself slipping back into the same pattern.

But you didn’t notice your change. You didn’t notice you were back to your old behavior until you again stumbled on the Hadith or in a lecture years later.

Sounds familiar?
Did that happen to you?

So, what’s the solution?
Why do you keep falling back into old habits?

The answer is simple:
You didn’t engage in Critical Reasoning.
You didn’t reflect deeply on the issue.
You didn’t brainstorm, discuss, or reconcile it with others.
You didn’t live with it in your mind.
You didn’t engage yourself with all the aspects surrounding it.
You didn’t make an attachment with it.

And that’s because you fail to realize the severity of this habitual behavior.
And you will never be able to solve a problem unless you work on understanding the severity of the problem first.

The problem with habitual behavior is that it is implanted, and deeply rooted in the process through which you were born, brought up and educated. Your family, entire society, education system, your nation, your financial condition everything together are responsible for it.
And therefore,
Until you remain constantly focused on your behavior and FORCEFULLY undo it, it’s not possible!
Until you remain in total attachment to the issue, you can’t break out from your habit, it’s not possible!

That’s why they say “It is easy to move a mountain but not a habit.”
This is true but not impossible.
You need to try hard and never give up.
You had the intention but intention also requires hard effort to make it successful.

This is where you enjoy your freedom to win over your desire, win over your laziness, win over your lavishness.

And how do you Do it?
Do you remember, you were stuck in a math, then your teacher solved the problem for you?
And then you were stuck in math once again but this time you couldn’t reach the teacher,
therefore, you tried it yourself and you struggled, tried again and again, and finally succeeded.
Which math concepts do you still remember today?

Let me give you another scenario.
A meritorious student belongs to a poor family,
He couldn’t afford to go to a tutor, therefore he had no choice but to keep on working hard to solve the problems in maths, physics, and chemistry by himself. and you see they are the ones, who are mostly successful in life compared to those who had tutors around the year to help them solve their problems. Sounds familiar?

This is where ‘The Quran for Critical Reasoning’ fits in.
This is for those who struggle to seek knowledge.
And when you earn the knowledge this way, you are impacted by the knowledge straight away.

And Allah knows best.
May Allah make us of those who act on what we learn.
And may Allah make us of those who remain firm on Deen.
Ameen.
