4:86. Stop and THINK O Muslims, Allah is CONCERNED about such little things like GREETINGS. This is what is called the DEEN of Allah. But you even greet another Muslim with the ‘Kuffar’s greetings!

The Ayah 4:86

4:86

Sahih International

And when you are greeted with a greeting, greet [in return] with one better than it or [at least] return it [in a like manner]. Indeed, Allah is ever, over all things, an Accountant.

বায়ান ফাউন্ডেশন

আর যখন তোমাদেরকে সালাম দেয়া হবে তখন তোমরা তার চেয়ে উত্তম সালাম দেবে। অথবা জবাবে তাই দেবে। নিশ্চয় আল্লাহ সব বিষয়ে পূর্ণ হিসাবকারী।

My reflection on Bangla Translations:

ডঃ মুজিবুর রহমান

আর যখন তোমরা শুভাশীষে সম্ভাষিত হও তখন তোমরাও তা হতে শ্রেষ্ঠতর শুভ সম্ভাষণ কর অথবা ওটাই প্রত্যর্পণ কর; নিশ্চয়ই আল্লাহ সর্ব বিষয়ে হিসাব গ্রহণকারী।

The translation of Mujibur Rahman simply failed to derive the importance of this verse. By reading a bookish translation, could an ordinary person be able to notice and take heed when it is such an important instruction to follow by every single Muslim every single day?

And no wonder, you see the results of this. Muslims in Muslims countries among themselves in an official environment, they greet themselves with the Kuffar’s greetings, such as ‘Good Morning’, ‘Good Evening’. Then imagine what could happen to those Muslims living in the Kuffar’s lands and working among the Kuffar!
La Hawla Wala Quawata Illa Billah!

That’s how Deen of Allah Subhanahu wa Ta’ala, the ways of Allah, the systems of Allah has lost. Muslims do all the rituals of the worships but in daily life aspects, they follow the Kuffar’s Deen. This happens because most of the non-Arabic Muslims read the Quran in Arabic Only and even though they started reading in their own language last few years but what importance they could derive reading translations in such bookish ways!

আর তোমাদেরকে যদি কেউ দোয়া করে, তাহলে তোমরাও তার জন্য দোয়া কর; তারচেয়ে উত্তম দোয়া অথবা তারই মত ফিরিয়ে বল। নিশ্চয়ই আল্লাহ সর্ব বিষয়ে হিসাব-নিকাশ গ্রহণকারী।

And then the translations of Muhiuddin makes an even greater degree of irrelevance to the issue here. What he tried to mean here only Allah knows! Yes, a greeting is a Dua too, no doubt about that. But to find it’s relevance with ‘Salam’ one has to know the Hadith about that And then think of it, a Muslim who has no understanding of the Arabic whatsoever and he reads this Ayah, could he be ever possibly think and take heed that this is an instruction about how to reply to a ‘Salam’?
Then how would he know and think how important it is to Allah that he must follow Allah’s Deen in his daily life as the way Allah Ajja Wajal instructed him?

I certainly hope that these translations could be simplified in the next revisions. May Allah give us the understanding of Deen. Ameen.
